For the second year, we watched this movie with our girls on Christmas Eve. I love that this film tries very hard to focus on the historic reality of a story that - while beautiful and awesome in its prophetic fulfillment and eternal implications - must have also been frightening and gritty for its main characters at the time. I especially appreciate the way it causes the viewer to consider the tender new relationship between Mary and Joseph and the way their difficult journey must have bonded them in a special way. Most of all, I am reminded of the incredible, counter-cultural way God chose to bring His Son into this world. Truly He is the Author of the greatest Story of all.
